TradeZella alternative: note500 vs TradeZella compared
TradeZella is the journal most traders have heard of, and it is a genuinely strong product with a big feature surface. note500 is the smaller, cheaper, more opinionated alternative. This page is written by the note500 team — so read the table, not the adjectives. Every number is dated and checkable, and we say plainly where TradeZella wins.
At a glance
Choose TradeZella
- You backtest strategies and want it in the same tool
- You use trade replay to study past setups bar by bar
- You run many accounts (50 on Pro, unlimited on Ultra)
- You need prop-firm sync across funded accounts
- Your broker is obscure and needs auto-import
Choose note500
- You want AI reviews on a schedule, not metered by credit
- Your real problem is discipline, not analysis
- You want seasonality context for your own results
- You want to start free, with no card
- You want to pay $19–29, not $35–99
Short verdict: if you backtest or live inside trade replay, buy TradeZella — the price gap is noise next to a tool you use daily. If you already know your setups work but keep breaking your own rules, note500 was built for exactly that, and you can test the claim on your own trades for free.

The structural difference: note500's most expensive plan costs less than TradeZella's cheapest. That is not a promotion, it is how the two products are priced. What you give up for it is breadth — TradeZella does more things, and the next table is honest about which.

Where TradeZella is genuinely better
Two features we simply do not have
Backtesting. TradeZella lets you test a strategy against years of historical data inside the same tool you journal in. note500 has nothing equivalent — we analyse trades you actually took, not trades you might have taken. If validating a strategy before risking money is part of your process, that is a real gap on our side.
Trade replay. Stepping a past setup forward bar by bar to see what you actually saw at decision time is a genuinely good way to learn, and we do not offer it.
Scale and breadth. Unlimited accounts on Ultra, prop-firm sync, a bigger broker list, and an education library. For a full-time trader running many funded accounts, TradeZella is the more complete platform and the price difference stops mattering.
Where note500 is different
1. AI review is a feature, not a currency
The difference most people feel first
TradeZella meters AI in credits — 500, 1,500 or 3,000 a month depending on tier — which you spend by invoking agents. It works, but it puts a meter between you and the thing you bought, and it means the months you trade worst (and most need review) are the months you burn credits fastest.
note500 inverts that. Reviews are scheduled: weekly and monthly on Plus, daily on Ultimate. They arrive whether or not you remember to ask, and reviewing more never costs more. The review scores your window 0–100, then names what you did right, what your mistakes cost in dollars, and how the window compares to the one before it.
2. Discipline rules scored from your fills, not your honesty
If you already know your setups work
Most journals — TradeZella included — track rules through tagging. The flaw is human: on the day you take nine trades after promising yourself five, and revenge-size the last one, you do not tag it. The data that would have caught the pattern is exactly the data a tilting trader declines to enter.
note500's discipline tracker scores rules automatically from your actual fills — max trades per day, max daily loss, stop-after-N-losers, and no-revenge-trade. You cannot un-take a trade, so the record stays honest on your worst days, which are the only days the feature exists for. Manual marks can override, but the default is evidence.
3. Your results against ~100 years of market history
Context no mainstream journal offers
Every journal tells you how you did. note500 also tells you what the market usually does — roughly a century of SPX, DJI, NDX and QQQ tendencies by month, week and day, crossed with your own results. So "is this month usually like this?" and "am I bad at September, or is September bad?" have answers before you size up.
4. The leak finder
Where the money actually goes
Beyond scheduled reviews, note500 runs a standing analysis for recurring, costly patterns — oversizing after a loss, holding losers longer than winners, the hot-hand streak that gives back a week's gains, fee drag on scalps — and reports each with its dollar cost. It is the same question a good review asks, answered continuously.
Which should you pick?
You backtest before you trade
Strategy validation is core to your process and you want it beside your journal. note500 has no backtester and no plan to pretend otherwise.
TradeZellaYou run several funded accounts
Prop-firm sync and 50+ accounts matter more than a monthly price difference. note500 caps at 15 accounts on Ultimate.
TradeZellaYour setups work but you keep breaking your rules
Over-trading, revenge trades, sizing up after losses. Automatic discipline scoring and scheduled reviews target this specifically.
note500You're starting out and cash matters
You want to journal real trades for weeks before paying anything. TradeZella has no free tier; note500's costs nothing and needs no card.
note500You're a swing trader wanting context
You hold for days or weeks and want to know how your results sit against historical seasonal tendencies.
note500You want an all-in-one platform
Journal, backtester, replay, education and community in a single subscription, and the budget to match.
TradeZellaFrequently asked questions
Does TradeZella have a free plan?
No. As of August 2026 the cheapest plan is Essential at $35/month billed monthly, or $26/month billed annually ($315/year). note500's free plan is free forever with no credit card — one account and your most recent 90 days.
Is note500 cheaper than TradeZella?
Yes, at every comparable tier. Plus is $19/mo and Ultimate is $29/mo, against Essential $35, Pro $59 and Ultra $99 billed monthly. note500's top tier costs less than TradeZella's entry tier.
Does note500 have backtesting or trade replay?
No — neither exists today, and both are real reasons to choose TradeZella. We analyse the trades you took, not the ones you might have taken.
How is note500's AI different from Zella AI?
Delivery and billing. TradeZella meters AI in monthly credits you spend by invoking agents. note500 writes scheduled reviews — weekly and monthly on Plus, daily on Ultimate — that arrive unprompted, and reviewing more never costs more. There is also an AI mentor chat with a per-plan message allowance.
Can I move my TradeZella trades into note500?
Yes. Export to CSV from TradeZella and import on note500's Data tab. We also import directly from Schwab, Fidelity, E*TRADE, TD Ameritrade, Tastytrade, Interactive Brokers, Webull and Robinhood, and sync read-only via SnapTrade on paid plans. Free-plan imports cap at 500 trades.
Which is better for prop firm traders?
TradeZella if you run many funded accounts — it has prop-firm sync, 50 accounts on Pro and unlimited on Ultra, versus 15 on note500 Ultimate. note500's edge for prop traders is that daily-loss and max-trade rules — the ones prop firms actually enforce — are scored automatically from your fills.
Does either place trades in my brokerage account?
No. Both are journals, not brokers. note500's broker connection is read-only by design: it imports fills and balances and cannot place trades or move money. See our security page.
Can I export my data if I leave?
Yes, on any note500 plan including free — export is never paywalled, and account self-deletion is built in. We think a journal that holds your data hostage is not worth trusting with it in the first place.
The honest bottom line
For most traders, note500 is the better buy — and it isn't close on price. Our top plan costs $29/month, less than TradeZella's cheapest. For that you get AI reviews that arrive on a schedule instead of being rationed by credit, discipline rules scored automatically from your fills, leaks priced in actual dollars, and a century of market seasonality behind your results. TradeZella has none of those last three at any price.
The reason that matters: most traders don't lose because they're missing a report. They lose to repeated, known, self-inflicted mistakes — the ninth trade on a five-trade day, the size-up after a loss, the Friday that gives back Tuesday. note500 is built to catch those without being asked, and to tell you what each one cost. That's the difference between a journal that records your trading and one that changes it.
TradeZella is the better tool on exactly two counts — backtesting and trade replay — plus scale if you run dozens of funded accounts. If those are core to your process, buy it; we'd rather say so than win you badly. For everyone else the maths is simple: note500 does more of what actually fixes trading, for roughly a third of the price, and you can prove it on your own trades before paying anything.
