TraderSync alternative: note500 vs TraderSync compared
TraderSync is one of the most established journals in the category, with broker coverage almost nobody matches. note500 is the newer, cheaper alternative with a different idea about what a journal should do for you. Written by the note500 team — so read the table, not the adjectives. Every number is dated, and we say plainly where TraderSync wins.
At a glance
Choose TraderSync
- Your broker is obscure — 700+ integrations
- You journal from a native mobile app
- You want simulated what-if analysis on past trades
- You use trade replay
- You want years of refined filtering and reporting
Choose note500
- You want reviews that arrive, not a chat to interrogate
- Your real problem is discipline, not analysis
- You want seasonality context for your own results
- You want to start free, with no card
- You want to pay $19–29, not $29.95–79.95
Short verdict: check your broker first — if TraderSync auto-imports it and note500 doesn't, that outranks every other line in the table. If both cover you, the question is whether you want a journal you query or a journal that talks back on its own.

note500 is cheaper at every tier on monthly billing, and its top plan costs less than TraderSync's entry plan. TraderSync's annual discount is steep, though, and narrows the gap considerably — if you are willing to commit for a year, price alone should not decide this.

Where TraderSync is genuinely better
Coverage, maturity, and one analysis we don't have
700+ integrations. This is the big one. TraderSync will almost certainly import from your broker automatically. note500 covers the major US brokers through read-only SnapTrade sync plus file import for eight of them — and if yours isn't on that list, that settles the decision before any other feature matters.
A mature native mobile app, included on every plan. Ours is an installable PWA with an Android app still in preparation. If you log trades from your phone mid-session, theirs is more proven.
Simulated / what-if analysis. TraderSync can ask what a different exit rule would have done to your real history. That is a genuinely useful question and we cannot answer it today.
Where note500 is different
1. A journal that talks first, instead of waiting to be asked
The core philosophical difference
Cypher is a chat assistant, and a capable one. But a chat has a structural problem: you have to know what to ask. The genuinely valuable questions — "am I sizing up after losses?", "do I give back Friday what I made Tuesday?" — are precisely the ones a struggling trader doesn't think to ask, because noticing the pattern is the hard part. Metering compounds it: at roughly 5 messages a day on Pro, you ration your curiosity.
note500 inverts this. Reviews are scheduled — weekly and monthly on Plus, daily on Ultimate — and arrive whether or not you went looking. Each scores the window 0–100, names what you did right, prices each mistake in dollars, and compares the window against the one before. Reviewing more never costs more.
2. Discipline scored from fills, not from tagging
If you already know your setups work
TraderSync tracks rules through tags, like most journals. The flaw is human: on the day you take nine trades after promising yourself five and revenge-size the last one, you don't tag it. The data that would catch the pattern is exactly the data a tilting trader declines to enter.
note500 scores rules automatically from your actual fills — max trades per day, max daily loss, stop-after-N-losers, no-revenge-trade. You can't un-take a trade, so the record stays honest on your worst days, which are the only days the feature exists for.
3. Seasonality — context TraderSync doesn't offer
Especially for swing traders
Every journal tells you how you did. note500 also tells you what the market usually does: roughly a century of SPX, DJI, NDX and QQQ tendencies by month, week and day, crossed with your own results. "Am I bad at September, or is September bad?" gets an answer before you size up.
4. Leaks, priced in dollars
Where the money actually goes
note500 runs a standing analysis for recurring costly patterns — oversizing after a loss, holding losers longer than winners, the hot-hand streak that gives back a week's gains, fee drag on scalps — and attaches a dollar cost to each, so fixing them can be ranked by what they actually cost you.
Which should you pick?
Your broker isn't a major US name
Automatic import decides this outright. 700+ integrations against our eight file adapters plus SnapTrade sync.
TraderSyncYou journal from your phone mid-session
A mature native app beats an installable PWA today, and it's included on every TraderSync plan.
TraderSyncYou keep breaking your own rules
Over-trading, revenge trades, sizing up after losses. Automatic discipline scoring targets this without relying on you to tag honestly.
note500You're starting out and cash matters
You want to journal real trades for weeks before paying. TraderSync gives you 7 days; note500's free plan doesn't expire and needs no card.
note500You want to test alternative exits
Simulated what-if analysis against your real history is a TraderSync feature with no note500 equivalent.
TraderSyncYou swing trade and want context
Holding for days or weeks, and wanting your results set against roughly a century of seasonal tendencies.
note500Frequently asked questions
Does TraderSync have a free plan?
No — a 7-day free trial rather than a free tier, then $29.95 (Pro), $49.95 (Premium) or $79.95 (Elite) per month, discounted on annual billing. note500's free plan is free forever with no card.
How does Cypher AI compare to note500's AI reviews?
Cypher is a chat you query, metered at roughly 5/15/60 messages per day by plan. note500 writes scheduled reviews — weekly and monthly on Plus, daily on Ultimate — that arrive unprompted, plus a mentor chat with its own allowance. A chat needs you to know the right question; a scheduled review doesn't.
Does TraderSync support more brokers?
Yes, by a wide margin — 700+ integrations against our SnapTrade read-only sync plus eight file-import adapters (Schwab, Fidelity, E*TRADE, TD Ameritrade, Tastytrade, Interactive Brokers, Webull, Robinhood). See our broker list.
Is note500 cheaper?
Yes at every tier on monthly billing — $19 and $29 against $29.95, $49.95 and $79.95. TraderSync's annual discount is steep and narrows the gap, so if you'll commit for a year, decide on features instead.
Can I move my TraderSync trades into note500?
Yes — export to CSV from TraderSync and import on note500's Data tab. Free-plan imports cap at 500 trades; paid plans are uncapped.
Which has the better mobile experience?
TraderSync today. Theirs is a mature native app on all plans; ours is an installable PWA with a phone-first dark UI and an Android app in preparation.
Does either place trades in my brokerage account?
No. Both are journals, not brokers. note500's broker connection is read-only by design: it imports fills and balances and cannot place trades or move money. See our security page.
Can I export my data if I leave?
Yes, on any note500 plan including free — export is never paywalled, and account self-deletion is built in.
The honest bottom line
If TraderSync supports your broker and so do we, note500 is the better choice — cheaper, and better at the part that actually costs you money. Plus is $19/month against their $29.95, and our top plan undercuts their entry plan. For less money you get scheduled AI reviews instead of a chat rationed to five messages a day, discipline scored automatically from your fills, leaks priced in dollars, and roughly a century of seasonality behind your results.
That difference is the whole argument. A chat assistant only answers the question you thought to ask — and the questions worth asking ("am I sizing up after losses?", "does Friday give back Tuesday?") are exactly the ones a struggling trader never thinks to type. note500 writes the answer anyway, every week, whether or not you were brave enough to look. A journal that waits to be asked is a filing cabinet. One that talks first is a coach.
One caveat we'll state plainly: TraderSync's 700+ integrations beat our SnapTrade sync plus eight file adapters, and their native mobile app is more proven than our PWA. Check your broker first — if we can't import it, buy TraderSync. If we can, note500 gives you more of what fixes trading for less money, and you can test that on your own trades before paying anything.
